The Norwegian journalist Ella Anker who worked as a newspaper correspondent in London became a co-founder of the Anglo Norse Society in 1918. However, it was not until 1921 that the society was officially established. The first president was the world famous explorer, scientist and humanitarian Fridtjof Nansen, who in his own words wished “ to promote friendship and understanding “ between Great Britain and Norway. We, in the Norwegian branch of the society, were proud to have celebrated the 90th anniversary of the society in September 2011 at the Gamle Krigsskolen in Oslo.
